Naya Rivera: Recovery search resumes on Lake Piru - Los Angeles Times
Jul 10, 2020 1 min, 47 secs
Officials said the search of the lake could take up to a week.

“Our hearts and our prayers and thoughts go out to the Rivera family,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt.

The search effort includes 100 personnel, including 25 divers, two helicopters and six pontoon boats, said Ventura County Deputy Chris Dyer.

Dyer said while Lake Piru isn’t more dangerous than other lakes, the water can be deep in some areas and has tall underwater vegetation that could entangle swimmers.

Video footage released by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office showed the actress and her son boarding the rental boat alone Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff’s officials later learned that Rivera and her son were swimming together in the lake.

Ventura County sheriff’s officials said no one has drowned in the lake in the past year.

“Right now, it’s been 24 hours, so we’re not thinking she made it to shore,” Ventura County Senior Sheriff’s Deputy Miguel Gonzalez said.
