Witcher 3 Port Specialist Thinks Devs Can Get More Out Of The Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Life
May 30, 2020 5 mins, 49 secs

One of the most impressive releases on the Nintendo Switch so far is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition?

The company has now moved onto development of World War Z for the system, and although this is said to be "actually more challenging" than the Witcher 3, in a recent interview with Wccftech, Saber's CEO and founder Matthew Karch mentioned how there is still essentially untapped power left within the system, and said that developers could get more out of it:.

We are big fans of the Nintendo Switch and feel there is still a lot of great potential in the hardware and the platform.

We do feel there is more developers can get out of the Switch hardware.

Given the fact Saber managed to release a port on the Nintendo Switch that some said was impossible, we'll take Karch's word that developers could do more with Nintendo's current generation hardware!

Perhaps the most-impressive games have not even been released on the Switch yet, with Karch adding:!

What ambitious games would you like to see ported to the Switch.

When he’s not paying off a loan to Tom Nook, Liam likes to report on the latest Nintendo news and admire his library of video games.

I also really like first person shooters & fighting games, but I can't think of any aren't already on/coming to the Switch with the exception of Tekken & COD!

I would much rather see new games designed to fully take advantage of the Switch's capabilities than have massively downgraded games from elsewhere?

I would like to see Horizon zero dawn on switch.

Devs can get more out of every console; the question is just whether it's worth everyone's time and the publisher's money to make it happen.

The reason developers are so eager for the PS5 and Series X is to make their jobs easier, and arguably economically feasible.

@carlos82 I don't think you're wrong, but the Switch needs to have third-party support if it wants to continue thriving.

Switch needs a GTA on it.

That’s not what the list of best selling Switch games says.

Looking at sales the top 30 games on Switch are virtually all Nintendo made or related, somewhat ironically the best selling purely 3rd party effort is Octopath Traveler.

You say: "The reason developers are so eager for the PS5 and Series X is to make their jobs easier, and arguably economically feasible." That's 1.000.000.000 % wrong.

How on earth did you get the idea that it is more economically feasible for developers to develop for the next generation of video games platforms.

I bet that a lot more could be done if games were made directly for the Switch, rather than for PC or PS4 and then forced to redo and edit everything to work on Switch.

Instead of getting pared down versions of older games, new experiences that take advantage of what Switch does best is the way to go?

All the best third party Wii U games were ones that specifically took advantage of the hardware and I wish more devs would find novel ways to use the joy-cons.

Though I'd really like to see third parties create new games tailored for the Nintendo switch instead of just releasing ports?

Don't get me wrong I love a good port but would love to see what third party Devs could do creating fresh games purely for the switch?

I would love a Soul Calibur on my Switch.

I would like to play Batman: Arkham Knight on Switch.

GTA V is absolutely possible on Nintendo Switch.

I don’t think V should be ruled out as often as it is sometimes; however it's just a matter of whether Rockstar wants to port the game to the Switch.

They’d see exceptional success and take a considerable amount of wind out of Saints Row’s sales on Switch with it being the best alternative we’ve received on the platform.

The Switch needs GTAV as that game needs a few more sales.

Which, to be fair, is how it's long been on Switch AND elsewhere!

Yes third party games are hugely important.

It doesn’t matter whether they’re among the best sellers for the Platform or not.

For a system to sell it needs a library with variety and depth.

Unless Nintendo are going to pay for it you won’t see many Third Party exclusives on Switch, if any.

My point is that whilst it's nice getting these, I would much rather the big third party developers made new games specifically for the Switch and that simply isn't happening

I've owned Bioshock 1 and 2 for 10 years, I played The Outer Worlds last year, I've finished Doom Eternal elsewhere, I'd long since finished The Witcher 3 before it launched and I've had Xenoblade chronicles for god knows how long

Some older games I have bought again and will do in the future but where are the new games made just for us

This is what I'm getting at, we keep hearing what games developers think they can make work rather than what games developers think they can make

@carlos82 3rd party games don't sell well enough on Nintendo hardware to warrant exclusive 3rd party support, especially next to Nintendo's own first party games

I'm happy with old ports of their old games as long as it's ported properly and is a reasonable price

I don't except 3rd parties to line up to make exclusive games for the Switch, it just won't happen

I think Nintendo and Monolith could get more out of the system

The Switch is tapped out and was a few years before they released it

N needs a Switch 2 pronto

nice see some publishers taking time for some good ports and not just wii shovelware type garbage

Generally the best games on any platform were made for that platform

It's like making a list of needed groceries instead of going to the store and just hoping you remember what you need

Good fits for Switch that would be considered new games

Red Steel 3, ghost recon online (yes that cancelled one), Umbrella chronicles aftermath (Resi 4,5+6, rev), Zack and Wiki 2, another new Sin and Punishment, Last Story 2, new House of the dead, new Dead space, new Ridge Racer, new Titanfall, Project X zone 3, Bully 2, Nintendo land 2, Zombi 2,Rainbow six Vegas 3, Dead rising kill switch, Mass effect tales
