Other times, we get monitors like the BenQ Mobiuz EX3415R ($999.99), which sacrifices a higher HDR rating or more vibrant color in pursuit of record-setting input-latency results.

If you're a BenQ loyalist, the EX3415R is the best gaming ultrawide display the company offers.

The Mobiuz EX3415R is a 34-inch curved monitor with 3,440-by-1,440-pixel resolution, featuring an IPS panel with a native refresh rate of 144Hz.

Considering how garish many gaming monitors are, I was surprised to find the Mobiuz EX3415R has no LED lighting anywhere on its housing or under the hood, not even an illuminated logo.

We test gaming monitors with a Datacolor SpyderX Elite colorimeter, a Murideo SIX-G signal generator, and Portrait Displays' CalMAN 5 software.

In the Standard picture mode with an SDR signal, the Mobiuz showed a peak brightness of 207.5 nits (candelas per square meter) and a black level of 0.15 nit, working out to a contrast ratio of 1,383:1, slightly above its rated 1,000:1.

As for traditional input lag (the amount of time between when a monitor receives a signal and the screen updates), we test that with an HDFury 4K Diva HDMI matrix.

With a 60Hz test signal, the Mobiuz showed an input lag of 1.4 milliseconds.

The Final Fantasy XV Windows benchmark looked merely OK on the Mobiuz, but the monitor was running in SDR mode at the time, as an HDR implementation for Final Fantasy is nonexistent.

Were it not for the existence of the stellar MSI Optix MPG341CQR, the BenQ Mobiuz EX3415R might have gotten higher marks here.
