In a recent episode of podcast Toxic: The Britney Spears Story, the now 39-year-old Alexander said that Spears' team forced him to sign documents that would put an end to their marriage while also allowing the duo to pursue their relationship in the future.

"They told me if I would sign the contracts — the annulment — they would let me and Britney continue our relationship, and if we felt the same way in six months they would give us a proper marriage," Alexander said, saying that immediately after their marriage was dissolved, the 'Womaniser' hitmaker's team tried to talk him out of it.

Alexander has been a vocal supporter of the Free Britney movement, even attending a rally in Los Angeles to protest her conservatorship in August last year.
