Japanese star Naomi Osaka capped off the opening ceremony in style but the internet was more interested in another country’s flag bearer.

Pita Taufatofua is the only athlete who attracts as much attention at an opening ceremony as he does while competing.

The Tongan taekwondo star lit up the internet when he first carried his country’s flag at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, less so for his flag-waving technique and more for his shredded physique that glistened with oil as he strutted his stuff without a shirt on.

“All these articles are fun but seeing doors opening for women and youth in the pacific is what’s really special for me,” Taufatofua wrote.
