While Brisbane are holding off a bid from the Storm that would see Xavier Coates link up with the club ahead of schedule.
Brisbane are digging their heels in over the mooted early switch involving Xavier Coates and Brenko Lee.
The Broncos have signed Lee for next year, with the Storm securing Coates’ services for next season.
The Storm initiated talk of an early swap, but the Broncos said Coates still had a valuable role to play in their plans for 2021
“Melbourne approached them a few days ago because Brisbane have signed Brenko Lee for next year,†The Australian’s Brent Read told NRL360 on Fox League
“The Storm said ‘let’s do the swap now, Xavier isn’t going to get a run’ and Brisbane said ‘no’
“I thought it was a logical swap, and I spoke to Ben Ikin about it and he said he is a good bloke who they enjoy around the club and they want to keep him but there hasn’t been a line put through Xavier Coates
The 31-year-old prop played 21 games in the Super League but could now become a late option for a club looking to fill their roster before the August 1 deadline
