NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian dubbed the situation in Greater Sydney a “national emergency†on Friday, after the state reported 136 new local COVID-19 cases.
Almost 1800 NSW residents have contracted COVID-19 during the current outbreak, which began when an unvaccinated limousine driver caught the virus while transporting international flight crew.
Around 140 Victorians have contracted the virus since July 12, when two removalists travelled from Sydney to Melbourne while infected with COVID-19.
The impact of South Australia’s lockdown, which began on July 20, is not reflected in the mobility data, which is current to July 19.
