The arts, entertainment and live music sectors are calling for urgent action to avoid industry collapse as another major stage production announced it is being postponed due to Sydney's lockdown?

The arts and entertainment sector was among the first to shut down in March last year and will be one of the last to return when Australia finally re-opens — and the industry has urged the Federal Government to do more in order to save jobs and stop productions from going under.

"I think we just want to feel like we're playing on the same team, and there aren't necessarily corners being cut or favours given to the sport world that aren't being given to the entertainment industry."

The industry is calling for more government support via grants and funding as well as certainty over border closures and what restrictions will be in place following lockdowns for live performances

The arts and entertainment industry has also been calling for a government-underwritten insurance scheme or fund for cancelled performances to give organisers the certainty that is currently lacking to book shows

However, Mr Fletcher told 7.30 this would not be something the federal government would adopt

"State government is the level of government that is best placed to be putting in place that kind of insurance scheme, whereas the Commonwealth has come in with things like the RISE (Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand) Fund."
