Children should be tested for coronavirus every week when they return to school in September.

It comes as the UK’s official coronavirus daily death count could be scrapped following an investigation into Public Health England’s method of counting the toll.

Ninety-seven thousand US children tested positive for coronavirus in the second half of July - weeks before schools and universities reopen.

The region with the highest number of deaths was the Midlands with four.
