The original versions of Grand Theft Auto Online will soon go dark, as Rockstar Games today announced it will shut down the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of its open-world online game on December 16.
The company said it will continue to update and support Grand Theft Auto Online on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, as well as the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S when those versions launch this fall.
That will give Grand Theft Auto Online -- which went live on October 1, 2013 -- a lifespan of more than seven years on its original platforms.
Leading up to the shutdown, Rockstar will stop selling in-game currency for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game on September 15.
In other PS3 and Xbox 360 end-of-service news, Max Payne 3 will no longer support Rockstar Games Social Club website stat-tracking, leaderboards, and online multiplayer functionality as of September 16, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of LA Noire will lose website stat tracking on the same day?
