NieR 'Tease' Amounts to Absolutely Nothing - Push Square

Update: In hindsight, we really should have just waited a few minutes before posting about the NieR: Automata Fan Festival.

The event is now live in Japan, and the NieR 'tease' posted to Twitter by Square Enix director and producer Yosuke Saito was not related to a new project.

No, the black card was actually covering a slice of information, stating that NieR Automata has now sold 7 million copies.

It all stems from Square Enix producer and director Yosuke Saito, who has posted a photo to Twitter, showing a soon-to-be-used stage.

Said stage is going to be part of this weekend's NieR: Automata Fan Festival, which is taking place at the Tokyo Garden Theater in Japan.

Logos for previous titles NieR Replicant and NieR: Automata are clearly visible, but then a third logo is covered by a piece of black card.

Obviously, the most exciting answer is that a new game could be announced during the event — but honestly, who knows with NieR.

Automata released for PS4 over five years ago, after all.

We're not sure if this is the kind of place where Square Enix would reveal a whole new game in what has become a fairly popular franchise — but again, you never know.

Knowing Square Enix is probably some stupid NFT collection featuring Nier characters or a remaster for PS5.

@Hindenburg Nier had a 1000 year time jump itself, and is sequel to a game originally set 800 or so years earlier, itself having a time jump to 1999.

@Luminous117 @ShogunRok Is just excited about a potential new Nier game like the rest of us, to be fair Saito and Taro are working on 2 new games together

Kinda crazy how this went from the first game only doing about 500k to it's sequel doing 7m to the re release of the 1st game now managing 1.5m

Replicant should have more but well deserved to both games if only for the music alone

I wonder how the millions of people that haven't played Replicant felt about all the, actually quite massive, nods to it in Automata

I feel like you wouldn't fully appreciate how amazingly depressing Automata ties in with Replicant, upon 1st playing, without all of that prior knowledge

There will be more Nier eventually, and not just a mobile game, I have faith in that
