A woman wants to help other people to have children after deciding she doesn't want kids of her own.

ECHO reporter Jess Flaherty has decided to become an egg donor to help people she’s never met to have a baby.

The 30-year-old from Yorkshire, now living in Toxteth, started the process in June at the Hewitt Fertility Centre at Liverpool Women's Hospital.

"I had quite a few gay friends at uni who would talk about how they would need egg donors and that planted the seed of thinking 'oh yeah there are couples that can't naturally have their own children or people who have fertility issues', so it was in the back of my head as something I would want to do.".

Jess said she's known for a long time that she didn't want children of her own, but it wasn't until she saw an Instagram post from one of her favourite musicians, Catherine Pierce, that she decided to take the plunge and start the process to become a donor.

Jess started her journey to become an egg donor in June this year, when she sent off an enquiry to the Hewitt Fertility Centre (HFC) at Liverpool Women’s Hospital and she was asked to fill out some forms about her medical history.

There are currently 80 people on the register at the Liverpool centre who are waiting for an egg donor.

Nicci Banks, Donations and Surrogacy Coordinator at the Hewitt Fertility Centre in Liverpool, said: "We work really closely with donors and recipients, so we’re with them for the whole journey and when you get that phone call and someone says they’re pregnant - it’s such a rewarding job, I wouldn’t want to do anything else."
