The trailer of Student Of The Year 2 left social media users with many questions on where did such a college exist? And if it did how could one get admission to an institution that is about song-dance and aerial kicks. Well, after the trailer that was subject to countless memes, we saw The Jawaani Song and it got a much better reception from one and all. Music composers Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani have done a fab job retaining the true essence of the original and adding some extra zing through new lyrics and a few new beats. The choreography is also top-notch. Many have liked it while purists have slammed the makers for ruining a classic from RD Burman's fab repertoire of songs.

Actor Randhir Kapoor who starred in the film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has come to the rescue of the makers saying, "I feel there is no harm in recreating songs. The original track came out four decades ago. Many youngsters were not aware of the song, but today, everyone knows it because of the remix. [After the redux version released], they all went back and searched for the original song on the Internet. I haven t seen the song, but I have heard it; it has a nice tune. Also, Karan has officially bought the rights of the number. So, his intentions are honest."

While we are okay with his opinion on recreating (and mostly ruining) old classics, what we fail to digest is his statement on the popularity of the song. Young people in India may not know most of the stars of the 1980-90s but it is impossible that people do not know the great RD Burman. The music wizard of India has composed n number of songs that resonate even with the youth of today. Every kid who has a TV at home must have seen atleast a couple of episodes dedicated to the great RD Burman on musical reality shows. Even if they have not seen that, they must have heard their fave singers talking about the legend. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is the title track of the film, which has given us the cult song, Jaane Jaan Dhoondta Phir Raha. Pray, who are these people who are ignorant? Are they Bollywood buffs or Hindi cinema music lovers? We do not think so.

It is perfectly ok to support the trend of remixes and recreations though we feel it is sad for an industry that has an immense musical legacy. However, raising the slightest doubt on a song that's a total classic shows that someone is out of sync with what real Indian public loves!
