New cases appear to have flattened somewhat in adults, but have risen recently in younger kids, Herlihy said.
Laura Klein, who works at UCHealth Memorial Hospital with women who have high-risk pregnancies, said she also is encouraging her patients to get the COVID-19 shot, though pregnant women are typically sensitive to taking medications or vaccines.
Colorado’s data shows about 92% protection for people who are fully vaccinated, which is in line with the national numbers, Herlihy said. They calculated that based on the rate of cases for vaccinated and unvaccinated people: there were 30.2 cases for every 100,000 unvaccinated people, and 2.3 cases for the same number of people who were two weeks out from their last shot.
The number of people getting vaccinated has taken a “steady downward trend” since mid-April, said Kate Maguire, deputy director of the state vaccine task force.Colorado will continue to request its full allocation of roughly 290,000 doses per week, though, and is working with more providers to give people as many options as possible for getting the shot, she said.
