Staten Island now has the highest infection rate per 100,000 residents in the city.

— Staten Island has surpassed 20,000 confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases since the pandemic’s outbreak, as the city Health Department recorded 185 new positive tests for the disease here in the past 24 hours.

Owing to the surge in cases this fall, the borough now has the highest infection rate per 100,000 residents in the city, eclipsing the Bronx.

Wednesday, 20,034 confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported on Staten Island since March, according to the most recent data available.

The fatalities include 936 borough residents with confirmed COVID-19 cases, an increase of two from Tuesday.

1, the confirmed coronavirus death tally had stood at 910.

A death is classified as “probable” if the decedent was a city resident who had no known positive laboratory test for the coronavirus, but the death certificate lists “COVID-19” or an equivalent as a cause of death.

Queens has the third-highest rate of confirmed coronavirus cases in the city with 3,655 residents per 100,000 testing positive.

Brooklyn, the borough with the largest population, has the fourth-lowest rate of infection per 100,000 residents — 3,146.

Manhattan has the lowest infection rate in the city with 2,362 per 100,000 residents testing positive.
