of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) says there is another disease that could be even more deadly for our deer called Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).
CWD is a neurological disease that is 100-percent fatal in white-tailed deer and has been detected in 26 states and four Canadian provinces as of August.
DFW says the disease has not been detected here in Washington yet but with more than three hundred counties in the United States having already detected CWD and hunting season right around the corner DFW has started a testing program that will help determine whether or not the disease is prevalent in Washington.
DeVivo, Ph.D., Ungulate Research Scientist for Washington’s DFW says CWD could have a lasting impact on the states white-tailed deer population.
DFW is asking anyone who tags a deer to get it tested for the disease.
DFW tells me that the science says this disease does not affect humans; however, DFW and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that you do not consume meat known to have tested positive for CWD!
