Fans Notice New Patches for PS4 First-Party Games Ahead of PS5 - Push Square

Here’s an interesting observation that’s almost assuredly not a coincidence: Sony has been busy beavering away on patches for a bunch of first-party games prior to the release of the PlayStation 5 next month.

It’s curious behaviour because many of these titles have been untouched for months – or even years.

God of War III Remastered, for example, was recently updated, as was PlayStation VR Worlds.

A true PlayStation veteran, Sammy's covered the world of PS gaming for years, with an enormous Trophy count to prove it.

God of War gets a new patch two years later for "bug fixes".

A patch for a PS4 game on PS4 to be compatible with PS5!.

@NB-DanTE Its about making it compatible with the PS5 Backwards Compatibility as the PS5 is NOT a PS4 and doesn't have the same architecture.

You are not running a PS4 game on a PS4 but a PS5 and a patch, even if its only on PS4 right now, will still be the 'latest' version for anyone wanting to play the game on PS5 in the future!

It maybe about making sure that the games are 'ready' for day 1 rather than wait until a patch comes along later...

I know it's broken on Sony's end if it failed on 3 different hard drives on 2 different PS4's (internal HDD on 2 different PS4's - one standard one PS4 Pro - and one external HDD).

Well yeah, it’s not running PS4 games in an emulator therefore it needs compatibility updates.

I find it hard to believe that 3 different HDD and 2 different PlayStations are busted

I even reformatted my PS4 to try to fix the problem with no dice (and stupidly forgot to back up years worth of save games - so I lost them all)

Probably nothing to do with the PS5 but it’s brilliant when companies continue to support older games 5 years on

Considering that only 10 games are omitted from the BC list, I doubt these patches are about making them compatible
