Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor called the high court’s refusal to once again block Texas’s six-week abortion law “catastrophic.”1

The court agreed to review Senate Bill 8 on an expedited basis in response to legal challenges from the Justice Department and abortion providers on Nov.

8 went into effect early last month when the high court declined to take up an emergency challenge from abortion providers to block the bill.

The justice explained that those with sufficient resources may seek abortions from out-of-state providers who cannot serve their own communities due to demand from Texas patients.
