In a statement, Dawn Hill Holdgate -- chair of the Nantucket Select Board -- said that 14 new COVID-19 cases were reported over the course of Wednesday and Thursday, bringing the total number of cases to 77.
Holdgate said that it is the highest number of cases that Nantucket has seen thus far in a short period of time, and that the island can expect to see the number of cases grow over the next 10 to 14 days.
In a joint statement, Nantucket Health and Human Services Director Roberto Santamaria and Nantucket Cottage Hospital President and CEO Gary Shaw said that 12 of the 14 new COVID-19 patients are Nantucket residents, and that the majority of them work in trades -- including landscaping, construction, carpentry, painting and cleaning -- who have been sharing rides to work1
Any residents who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms are urged to get tested at Nantucket Cottage Hospital's drive-thru testing site.
The Nantucket Select Board and the Nantucket Board of Health will be holding a joint emergency meeting at 10 a.m.
