Nintendo Has Removed Pikmin 3 From The Wii U eShop Ahead Of The Switch Release - Nintendo Life

Bye-bye, Pikmin.

It's official: Pikmin 3 Deluxe is arriving on the Nintendo Switch this October and will come packed with all of the DLC and even some brand new side story content featuring Olimar and Louie.

What does this mean for the future of Pikmin 3 on the Wii U, though?

While we wouldn't normally be asking a question like this - as discovered by Nintendo Everything, the original version of this game has now been delisted from this particular eShop (this includes the removal of the DLC as well)?

On the Nintendo website, the Wii U game page for Pikmin 3 is there, but there's no longer a way to purchase the game.

If you own a physical copy of this title, you can obviously still play it on your Wii U and if you've already bought a digital copy from the system's eShop, you shouldn't have any problems downloading the game.

Nintendo has pulled this same move in the past with games like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - ahead of 'Deluxe' re-releases on Switch (although in saying this, Tropical Freeze has since returned to the Wii U eShop and is available for purchase).

Pikmin 3 on Wii U was priced at $19.99 and the Deluxe version is valued at $59.99 on Nintendo's hybrid system.

Did you manage to grab a digital copy of Pikmin 3 for Wii U before it was pulled.

How do you feel about Nintendo taking down games while the Wii U eShop is still up and running?

When he’s not paying off a loan to Tom Nook, Liam likes to report on the latest Nintendo news and admire his library of video games.

If you believe the deluxe version is really worth $60 there is absolutely no reason to do this?

Even if the base game were $19.99, you've got the DLC, additional content, Switch Q&A testing, artistic asset rights, physical copy production, etc.

but i also have the physical copy of this game already so I'm good.

Boy, Nintendo REALLY wants people to forget all about the Wii U, don't they.

Hyrule Warriors was ported to Switch, yet it's still available to purchase on the Wii U.

New Super Mario Bros U + Luigi U was ported to the Switch, and yet it's available on the Wii U for purchase.

Is it because those games are still priced at 60 dollars.

@nessisonett That's just a big red flag saying nintendo not to sure in the game.

This also means that the Pikmin 3 demo is no longer up, either.

I picked up the digital version on Wii U several months ago, but I hadn't really got around to playing it yet, and so I had NO IDEA it had any DLC available.

Eh kinda stinks but ill just grab the switch version.

Anyone that had an interest in the game over the last 7 years has likely already purchased it.

Anyone complaining about not being able to purchase it now after all this time likely doesn't have a Wii U, which they'd have to buy the system itself to get the "cheapest" Pikmin 3 version....

People who have a WiiU and never bought this game now can't buy a game at a lower price because it's been out for ages?

Already have a physical copy that hasn’t been played in years 🤣.

The Wii U version is now permanently and forever gimped compared to the Switch version, and I get that's the point, but it still sucks a**!

A Wii U is going for about $180, Pikmin for $20-$25!

I mean, if you didn't bought Pikmin 3 ok Wii U in all this years, I'm pretty sure you weren't going to buy it now 🤷🏼‍♂️.

I'm chuffed to bits Pikmin is coming to Switch but this has left a bitter taste in the mouth (and I'm not talking about the cartridges.) Sure, Wii U was a flop but that's not the point.

Makes sense to put the game on Switch, but why aggravate Wii U owners.

The bad PR from Nintendo fans who own a Wii U was obviously worth it vs the sales number difference profit on Switch by keeping it on the Wii U eshop.

I'm assuming that that comes with some really damn good games bundled in...

It's an old game on a dead system?

Even at a $60 price tag, Pikmin 3 will sell significantly more on the Switch.

It's no worse than the people here that won't buy a game, until it goes on Sale (that doesn't make you a shady scummy consumer, does it?).

It benefits no one, and only reflects badly on Nintendo (who could really use some good PR right now).

however, they should have waited a while before taking Pikmin 3 down from the eShop; maybe a few weeks or even shortly after the Pikmin 3 Deluxe web site is finished.

Seriously, who still wants Pikmin 3 (a game that has been available for seven whole years) for Wii U (a long dead console with a minuscule install base) and hasn’t already bought it.

I doubt a single one of the people complaining in this thread falls into that category, and even if they do, the game is still available at a discount in physical form in various places (even the digital version is still purchasable on Amazon as a code for $20).

Can Nintendo really be running out of game ideas?.

Also greedy move delisting P3 on the U to make way for the Switch version.

I never bought P3.

While there are very few active, dedicated Wii U gamers now, giving them a chance to at least purchase the game is better than not, since these people are less likely to move on to the Switch anyway.

I snagged Pikmin 3 during the Mario Kart 8 promo, and.....I was underwhelmed.

Also, I'm happy that Nintendo has one more game that they'll have ready for the holidays.

The people we should really be mad at is all the ones that skipped this game.

Maybe if y’all would’ve supported the game and system when it released we would be getting Pikmin 4 instead of a port.

I personally liked this game, so I’ll gladly cough up $60 to have in on my switch.

I find this really unnecessary.

You can still redownload these games if you already bought them, right.

@JimmySpades I just bought Mario 64 on it today, after recently playing the DS version again and still hating the bad camera and controls there; so I still wanted to play the game, but the right way.

I really hope the Mario 64 remake rumor is true, because there’s a lot of awesome additions to the DS version (Characters, Stages and minigames) but the controls make it such an overall annoying experience.

Wow, Nintendo have turned into such a scumbag company these last few years.

@thesilverbrick My brother had Pikmin 3 and enjoyed it.

Recently I got my own console and had planned to get a few of my own copies of games we had shared; Pikmin 3 being one of them.

It better not affect redownloading Pikmin 3.

Nintendo taking it down was a stupid move, since there aren’t many (honestly I doubt any) people who would’ve bought the game on Wii U at this point, and removing it just makes Nintendo look awful.

@UltraLaserTen Is this really true.

I have the digital copy.

Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, and now Pikmin...

I am not interested in any of these games!

I wouldn't care but seeing as Nintendo is releasing games one at a time, with a couple of months gap, it feels like I have never been so bored with Nintendo.

@dcstud Only now do I realize that I never bought the final batch of DLC levels, haha.

How badly could I have wanted it if I haven’t bought it by now.

But it's a pretty low move for Nintendo: People should have the option to buy in the previous system, since it exist.

6 years later we get a cheap P3 Wii U port, but overpriced.

Since i bought near all exclusives on Wii U, it feels like Deja Vu owning Switch.

This is about as anti-consumer in my opinion as Sony not allowing PS4 controllers to work with PS5 games.

Then the phone apps where you can install, and also uninstall games on phone no matter where you are in the world.

Microsoft bought several legendary developers, and have big new titles like Grounded, Battletoads and Flight Simulator this month.

I really hope that we get Super Mario 3D World Deluxe soon.

I had all of the good Wii U games and I ended up selling Wii U.

The exciting part of gaming on the Gamepad instead of on the Tv even wasn't fully realized cause most games used the Pad as a menu.

Nintendo Switch is what the Wii U should have been.

I have like 70+ games for Switch and it is my favorite console of all time now.

@Ventilator I have a 1TB hard drive connected to my PS4 that I can copy files to and from the internal hard drive.

When i swapped 2.TB USB HDD to 4.TB on PS4, i had to re-download everything as there is no way to copy from USB to USB.

Xbox One, Wii U and Xbox 360 is the only consoles supporting USB to USB Copy.

Personally, I don't think it's that bad, just a daft move for very little gain!

And have emulated them through the years multiple times.

It's just not the best...

Because the included two player sounds fun, especially with my girlfriend...but we just sold our Switch a month ago due to the stagnation of first party games and I have absolutely ZERO interest in purchasing another because of this.

My son STILL plays the Wii U version to this day, YEARS later..

They're good games but not worth double dipping at their current price points for me (unlike Tropical Freeze)

It’s funny at the release of the switch and for a while they begged for our love and money and produced games etc

I have almost left the Nintendo gaming scene now as the Switch gathers dust

If you want to pay 60$ for the game that's fine, and if you don't care that Nintendo has removed the game from WIi U, that' fine again, BUT DO NOT TRY TO JUSTIFY

Well they haven't managed to remove my physical Wii U copy from my cupboard...

If you wanted the Wii U version, you should of got it by now, come on, it's only been out for 7 YEARS

On the other hand if you haven't bought Pikmin 3 after 7 years then you probably don't want it

The Wii U eshop could be taken down tbh it's been 3 years or so since the end of the console which only sold 13.5 million

It's not the greatest practice removing pikmin but they dont have to support wii u at all anymore and it seems unlikely everyone complaining was just about to buy it on a dead underperforming console (after years of resisting it)

Nintendo make a lot of crappy moves sometimes and this is right up there, the only reason they've removed it is so that people can't compare the prices to see how massively inflated the Switch version is, as are ALL of the Wii U ports which make up a large part of its library

It's like they don't even want the few Wii U lovers to continue using it

Anyway, although the Deluxe edition is a properly good port (well, that is if the reviews are good and it's not another case of "this thing worked better on the GamePad", which makes me prefer Wii U versions, i.e. The Wonderful 101) this time, and they haven't just thrown in an extra character for the easy level (remember, that's what they did with Tropical Freeze), 60 bucks

Really

@Leej07 You should have bought it years ago as the DLC weren't pricey

You'll only buy them second hand now, and if that's the case you can buy a second hand physical copy if you really want to play it, can't you

Sure, you might be getting 0 sales on this right now, but this revival on Switch may actually make those that have stuck with the Wii U buy a game and there's no harm in making a couple of extra sales that go straight into your pocket even if it's an old platform, surely

First party games are always full price because they sell millions of copies at that price and it's important to protect the premium pricing of the brand

It's a self fulfilling prophecy

Nintendo games sell like the expensive hot cakes that they are and so the premium pricing model continues until sales are not as expected

I think Nintendo removed the Wii U version so that Switch buyers won't accidentally buy the Wii U version when searching and buying on the Nintendo website

The Wii U version isn't a good "representative" of what you will find on the Switch version

The poor souls who had 7 years to buy the game for a console very few people owned..

Even if they charge 39.99 for Pikmin 3 deluxe for Switch it doesn't change the fact it was an old Wii U game that got discounts from it's launch

So I really don't understand removing it

But the CoD player base alone for Wii U is still above 37, and Blops2 is nearly 8 years old

My Wii U has been played alot more than Switch this lockdown, didn't even bother renewing family Pass online for myself, nephew and brother because we game more on other systems than Switch

Ironically I still have a backlog on Wii U, including finishing my digital copy of Pikmin 3

Would people really confuse a Wii U game with a Switch game

Personally, since sales of that pikmin 3 on wiiU would be like 12 or something, i think it's more Nintendo trying to prevent people from buying the wrong version now pre orders are up.

comercially it doesn' t really make sense otherwise.

anyone with a wiiU who knew about pikmin 3 will have bought it..

Not sure I will double dip, pikmin 3 never made me so wonderfully happy as 2 did..

It's Nintendo's loss, really

There will likely be other, unofficial, ways to get the DLC and the game for free for the people who really want the original Wii U version
