Resident Evil Village's Extraordinary Third-Person Mode Equivalent to Making a New Game - Push Square

Resident Evil Village’s extraordinary new third-person mode looks like an entirely new game – and it turns out it took a comparable amount of effort to create.

“That took about as much effort as creating a new game,” he exclaimed, when asked about the work involved with the new third-person perspective.

“Even the same game can be a very different experience when played in third-person.” This is what we observed from the most recent trailer: yes, the locations and encounters are the same, but the new perspective completely transforms the experience.

For Capcom, the biggest challenge was ensuring Resident Evil Village compares favourably in third-person to instalments originally designed with the over-the-shoulder perspective in mind.

“We felt we had to make something as good or better than Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3,” he sighed.

“Compared to the previous games in the series, Resident Evil Village has an exceptionally large variety of player actions.

The first person perspective was one of the reasons I held off on Village and 7.

Just a preference of mine, I prefer to game in third person perspective to see all the environment and characters.

Wonder if re4 is going to have a 1st person mode add on too?

I hate FPS Resident Evil for me Resident Evil is 3rd person it feels better but thats personal?

I wish they would add it to RE7 as well

It's very impressive the amount of work they had to put into it when nobody was even asking but everyone will appreciate it, i for one intend to play the whole game again in third person again before playing the new dlc

Still wondering what they meant by the psvr2 content for re4 remake,fingers crossed it's the full game in vr and not just a mode or whatnot

@get2sammyb I rarely replay games, but I enjoyed RE8 so much that this new perspective should be enough to make me play it again

@KaijuKaiser oh really i have heard people wanting the series to go back to 3rd person but didn't hear people wanting a 3rd person mode for 7 or 8

Excited about 3rd person, wish they did a 3rd person port for resident evil 7
