Sony Launches New PS Store Credit Vouchers for PS Plus - Push Square

Earlier in the month, it was reported that Sony was discontinuing its traditional digital PS Plus vouchers.

On the official PlayStation website, it was directing customers towards PS Store credit, which you can obviously use to purchase subscription time.

Major UK retailers like Shop To and Amazon UK now allow you to purchase £84 of PS Store credit, which is the cost of PS Plus Extra for a year.

There are also rebranded options available in the US, like $110, which is the price of PS Plus Extra and tax.

We’re not convinced this format is as clean as the old option, where you just bought how much subscription time you wanted and didn’t need to worry about PS Store credit, but we suppose with three tiers on offer, this is ultimately more manageable for retail displays.

Anyway, that’s the situation right now: PS Plus specific vouchers are out, but rebranded PS Store wallet top-ups are in.

Looks like this is a way for Sony to stop people from stacking and getting any type of savings towards these new ps plus subscriptions.

I went to both my local stores and they both said they no longer will be selling cards or deals on them like they always use to do.

I turned auto renew off for ps plus & ps now when I bought them & the cheeky b******* have turned them back on after launching this 'new' service luckily I caught it before they charged me for a year of premium.

@mrtennis1990 There's nothing stopping retailers selling the £84 cards for less than face value surely.

Can’t decide who has better customer service Sony or Activision….

@Anke that’s a good point but I use to be able to get some cards and deals on them from some local stores.

I went to all of them and they said they no longer will be having sales or giving out the old retail cards.

The average person is always pressing buttons be it in games or using any service whatsoever, yet sly sneaky service providers want to suggest the user is just too lazy to manually renew any expired service by tapping a few buttons...I mean you're saying I can parry, dodge, roll, pull of all sorts moves to beat bosses in Elden Ring but I can't manually renew anything myself...

As a PS User who doesn't buy new games often, this new PS Plus Extra/Premium is insane value for money.

An £80 and £5 card bought together on Shopto currently costs £74.70, £3 cheaper and a pound of credit left in your wallet.

@somnambulance they didn't charge me because my subscription lasts until October but they would've if I hadn't checked my subscription status even though I know I turned it off as soon as I bought it they've been sneaky & set it to charge me for premium when it ends.

I doubt staff at high street stores would know company strategy on something Sony announced today.

Likely they just know of no upcoming sales.

I only upgraded my essential to premium as it was just £21 for five months.

@Would_you_kindly same thing happened to me, I always ***** auto renewal off as I always got my PS+ for a fraction of the cost and soon as the new service went live my subscription ran out 3 days later and my card was charged $120 for PS+ premium (I had also been a PS now subscriber) so I had to contact PlayStation support and thankfully they refunded me BUT it shouldn't have happened in the first place

Sony just insured that we won't be able to buy the subscription at a discount from other stores, online or otherwise

Cd key sites, for example, had promotions on subscription cards more often than Sony, and all around the year, by 50% or even more sometimes (bought myself 15 months of PS+ for 28$ from one of those sites, almost 15 months ago... which is about to expire)

You could never get that deal for 10$ 20$ 50$ 60$ 100$ store credit vouchers

Sony insured now it has full control of the subscription process..

They're just proving again that they are greedy mofos, through and through..
