USMNT earns point, and some massive respect, in 0-0 draw with England at World Cup | Opinion

The Americans outplayed mighty England on Friday, letting the world know that while they might not be contenders for the World Cup, they’re not far off.

It is the USMNT’s second draw against England at a World Cup, following one in 2010, and improves their all-time record against the Three Lions to 2-8-2.

England hasn’t won a World Cup since 1966, but the Three Lions will always be the USMNT’s measuring stick. The Premier League is as easy to watch in the United States as the NFL, and more and more Americans are playing at clubs in England.

They were semifinalists at the 2018 World Cup, played in the final of the European Championship two years later and came to Qatar as one of the favorites.

The Americans were in such control that at one point in the second half, Jordan Pickford spent about five minutes screaming at his teammates while the England players were wildly gesturing at one another.
