SEGA has had various events and tie-ins to celebrate 30 years of Sonic the Hedgehog, but the big event from a gaming perspective is the upcoming Sonic Colors: Ultimate, which will see the previous Wii-exclusive come to various platforms including, of course, the Nintendo Switch?

Our first question was on the Switch framerate, of course, after a carefully worded Switch version of a trailer caught our attention, along with some other little questions about what's new and exciting in the 'Ultimate' release?

The trailer for the Switch version didn't explicitly confirm the framerate; can you clarify if it's running at 60fps or 30fps.

The Switch version of Sonic Colours: Ultimate will run at 30fps?

Of all the 3D Sonic games released, why did you choose to remaster Colours over any of the others.

The original Sonic Colours was a great title that was only available on the Wii which restricted the number of players that were able to enjoy the title.

With Sonic Colours: Ultimate, we’re pleased that we can deliver the title for everyone to enjoy.

Are there any plans to bring other classic 3D Sonic games such as Unleashed, the Adventure series, or 2006’s Sonic the Hedgehog to modern consoles in remastered form?

When approaching the remaster of Sonic Colours, we wanted to ensure that the game felt “Ultimate.”?

We have nothing to share at this time but do hope fans are looking forward to Sonic Team’s next game, along with Sonic Origins.

Have there been any adjustments to the level design at all, perhaps small tweaks that the developers felt should have been made in the original game.

When approaching the remaster of Sonic Colours, we wanted to ensure that the game felt “Ultimate.” From adding in music remixes, customization options for Sonic, to a new playable wisp, and the Rival Rush mode we hope that new and old fans alike find something that they enjoy with Sonic Colours: Ultimate.

Can we expect callbacks to classic Sonic characters, tropes, or themes?

In Sonic Colours: Ultimate, players will be able to customize Sonic’s in-game gloves, shoes, aura, boosts and access special player icons which feature classic Sonic characters, and SEGA games.

With Sonic Colours: Ultimate, we wanted to provide fans with even more of their favourite music from by tapping into the likes of Jun Senoue, Tomoya Ohtani and others to create an unforgettable experience.

Music has always played such an important role within Sonic games and for the brand.

And lastly, not a question, just a thank you for maintaining the British English spelling of 'Colours' in the European version of the release of Ultimate, as you did with the Wii original.

Glad to hear it isn't just me who is pedantic about the spelling of 'colours'?

So naturally the Switch version gets the short end of the stick there, it was 30 FPS on the Wii originally too.

also didn' the original Wii version run at 30fps.

Disappointed that it only runs 30 fps on the Switch but still getting that version for the portability and since I played it on the Wii years ago I view it as a more of a game for Nintendo consoles.

Really just happy to see it getting a re-release, it's a genuinely good entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

The original Colors soundtrack is my favorite of all time, but most of the remixes I've heard so far have been downright bad - a huge shame after Team Sonic Racing nailed them.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania seems to be a much better remaster of a Sega game tbh

What they did was very similar to Mass Effect Legendary Edition where EA had to overhaul a bunch of the game, especially the 1st one

It's funny you mention that, because both Sonic Colors Ultimate and Mass Effect Legendary Edition are developed by Blind Squirrel Entertainment

(wonders about whether this Sonic Colors: Ultimate game would have an option for playing music used in the game it was based upon or not)

@RupeeClock so is Sonic Colors Ultimate like a rebuilt version of the original Wii game because maybe the source code got lost

@scannerdarkly7 Sonic Colors on Wii was one of the most demanding games on Wii with dense environments with a lot of geometry and many flashy visual effects that aren’t friendly to the Switch’s processor and memory bandwidth

It would have been difficult to get a game like this running at 60 at all on Switch - no 60FPS game on Switch stands out to me as more dense aside from Mario Kart 8

“Are there any plans to bring other classic 3D Sonic games such as Unleashed, the Adventure series, or 2006’s Sonic the Hedgehog to modern consoles in remastered form?”

Just wanna say a lot of the Sonic games are available on Series X (modern console) already through backwards compatibility including Unleashed, Generations and Adventure 1&2

Feels like a slap in the face that this remaster wasn't prioritized for the Switch

Why couldn't they just make this game for the Switch hardware, then make it even more gorgeous on other platforms

You should have asked if the secret final boss from the DS version made its way into the Ultimate version

I played the first Sonic Adventure when I was ten in the early 2000s, so my personal suggestion would be to play SA1 instead, it's a wonderfully varied game that's just filled to the brim with details and content

Would've preferred Unleashed, but Colours is still an amazing game on its own right
