Group sees 14% increase in child COVID-19 cases with close to 800000 US kids infected - KSL.com

ATLANTA (CNN) — Children account for 11% of all COVID-19 cases in the U.S., a 14% increase over the past two weeks, the American Academy of Pediatrics said Monday.

Severe illness and deaths from COVID-19 are still rare among children.

Between 0.6% and 6.9% of all child COVID-19 cases resulted in hospitalization and in states that reported the information, up to 0.15% of all children with COVID-19 died.

Sixteen states reported no child deaths.

A smaller subset of states report information about hospitalizations and deaths by age.

The two viruses cause similar symptoms but a study published September in JAMA Network Open found that children hospitalized with COVID-19 were more likely to have fever, aches, diarrhea and vomiting than were children with the flu.
