South Dakota announced a new state-record of 54 COVID-19 related deaths on Saturday as the Department of Health reported 819 new cases.

There are now 17,106 active coronavirus cases in South Dakota.

Thirty-one men and 23 women died, the Department of Health said.

Minnehaha County saw the largest increase of cases with 202 followed by Pennington (90), Yankton (45), Brown (44), and Lincoln (32), according to the South Dakota Department of Health

The state reported that the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 decreased by 30 in the last day
