Unvaccinated Americans Are Behind Rising Covid-19 Hospitalizations
The vast majority of patients driving up Covid-19 hospitalizations in parts of the U.S.
AdventHealth, which manages 41 hospitals across seven largely Midwestern and Southern states, said about 97% of roughly 12,700 Covid-19 patients treated this year were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. The data excludes some AdventHealth hospitals managed under joint ventures.Of the fully vaccinated Covid-19 patients who have been or are in AdventHealth hospitals, many have weakened immune systems due to cancer or other conditions, said Jeffrey Kuhlman, chief quality and safety officer for AdventHealth. HCA Healthcare Inc., one of the nation’s largest hospital systems, said its data show fully vaccinated people account for less than 1% of its Covid-19 patients.
