“When firefighters arrived, the flames were literally lapping over the Jeremiah O’Brien,” he said.

Firefighters said the massive blaze had spread to other structures on the pier.

“We have fire isolated to the rear of Pier 45,” Baxter said at 7 a.m.

He said that the fire tore through Building C on the pier and “all four corners of the building have collapsed into the building.

Still, Baxter said, rescue crews were searching the smoldering remains the best they could to make sure there were no victims of the blaze.

He said at the height of the battle with the flames there were 130 firefighters and 50 apparatus on the scene.

Visitors to San Francisco’s popular Fisherman’s Wharf are very familiar with the pier as it has several old warships docked along side of it
