Halsey reflected on their new role while talking about their new album If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power with Billboard, telling the magazine: 'I'm glad we got to make this album when we did because being a mother to my son makes being a musician seem pretty boring.'.

Priorities: Halsey admitted being a mother makes 'being a musician seem pretty boring' while opening up to Billboard in an interview with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails.

'Something really amazing happened when I did have my son, which is the absolute, glorious eradication and death of my ego,' the artist - who uses 'she' and 'they'  pronouns interchangeably - said.

'But part of that is true, and [this album] was a really validating and invigorating opportunity to get back to the style of writing and collaborating that made me fall in love with music to begin with.' 

If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power was crafted in collaboration with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, artists who Halsey joked they 'had been basically poorly plagiarizing' since the start of their career
