Victoria Derbyshire bid farewell to another Newsnight colleague (Image: BBC)Victoria Derbyshire reacted to her colleague's departure just days after Mark Urban announced he was leaving the BBC after 35 years at the broadcaster.

Newsnight's Economics Editor Ben Chu took to X and shared he was stepping down from the current affairs programme after five years.

"I’ll be joining the BBC ’s Verify unit as Policy & Analysis correspondent in the coming weeks & really look forward to working with their excellent team…"

Mark, who announced his BBC exit earlier this week wrote: "Very glad you have been saved for the nation!

Ben has been a regular contributor to Newsnight but will now move to BBC's Verify which comprises of about 60 journalists who will form a highly specialised operation with a range of forensic investigative skills to explain complex stories.

BBC Newsnight is facing a fight for its future after losing half its viewers and having more than £7million cut from its budget.
