The Scottish actor came out on top in the survey for RadioTimes.com with 44 per cent of the vote, ahead of Timothy Dalton in second, with 32 per cent, and Pierce Brosnan in third with 23 per cent.  .

Brosnan won round two with 76 per cent against 24 per cent for George Lazenby, whose sole appearance was in 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. .

Round three had perhaps the most surprising result, with Moore knocked out of the competition with 41 per cent of the vote by his immediate successor Dalton, who scored 49 per cent.

But the final round, pitting the three winners against each other, saw Connery voted the greatest Bond of all time ahead of Dalton and Brosnan.
