- Berks County is enlisting the help of the Pennsylvania National Guard to assist with COVID-19 testing at Berks Heim.

Starting next week, the National Guard will be helping to test all of the county-owned nursing home's staff, according to Berks County Commissioner Christian Leinbach.

"This assistance is available to nursing homes and long-term care facilities throughout the commonwealth, and Berks County is taking advantage of this support," said Commissioner Christian Leinbach.

As of Tuesday, Berks Heim has had 52 residents and eight staff members test positive for the coronavirus.

The testing, Leinbach said, is part of a partnership with the state's Health Department and the U.S.

Overall, Berks County has had 3,735 positive cases of the coronavirus, state health officials announced Tuesday. .
