Alisher Usmanov is the majority owner of Russian telecom MegaFon, which sponsored English soccer team Everton until the team recently suspended the pact and removed the company’s branding from the stadium.

Gennady Timchenko built a fortune estimated at $22 billion by Forbes, including a stake in Russian gas company Novatek.

He is chairman of the Russian national hockey league KHL and president of its SKA Saint Petersburg team.

Igor Sechin, chief executive of Russian oil producer Rosneft, had his 280-foot yacht, the Amore Vero, seized by authorities at a French shipyard after the EU added him to its sanctions list.

Sechin is a former KGB agent and a longtime associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

When Sechin was sanctioned in 2014 by the U.S., he said he considered the move an endorsement of his effectiveness at Rosneft.

Alexey Mordashov, chairman of Russian steelmaker Severgroup, is one of Russia’s richest men, with Forbes estimating his worth at $29 billion.

Mordashov said he didn’t understand why the EU sanctioned him and called the war 'a tragedy for two fraternal nations.'

These are just a few of the oligarchs sanctioned, and Western officials said the list could grow as the war in Ukraine continues
