Sydneysiders were told to avoid the city’s eastern suburbs as NSW recorded at least three new coronavirus cases.

By Thursday morning, health authorities revealed a third case, a woman in her 70s, tested positive after visiting the same eastern suburbs cafe as the infected driver.

Police are now investigating how the driver was infected and NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard made a point of reminding chauffeurs of their “legal” obligations under the state’s current health orders.

Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said the “obvious” theory was the driver was infected by one of the flight crews he transported.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian did not announce any lockdowns but told residents of the eastern suburbs, which include Bondi, not to socialise.

“I will never stop keeping Queenslanders safe,” she told state Parliament as the state extended a ban on people from greater Melbourne for another week.

Sydneysiders are being told to avoid the eastern suburbs and Melburnians continue to enjoy national pariah status as Australia faces a fresh outbreak in NSW.
